CANINES NUISANCES

Discussions concerning dog faeces in town and dangerous dogs are on the french Ministry of agriculture agenda. Actually, the problem is far from beeing resolved in France. We shall have to found again, in any case, a minimum of good citizenship and responsability towards our dogs if we want to continue to live with them in town as well than countries in good conditions.

Around 35% of french people possess a dog, including 15% in Paris (it is the low rate). The two pollutions that bother mostly 78% of french people are dog faces and dangerous dogs.

In Germany, you have to educate your dog if you want to possess one. You have to know a few to control him. The german lander inform and give sense of responsability to the masters.

In U.S.A. professional associations of veterinaries organize all the year events that allow them to inform people. For example, in february they inform people about dentistry, in april the subject will be the prevention of cruelty to animals, in june and october: the adoption of cats and dogs... A veterinary choses a subject and organizes sevral activities around it. "Philippe Zeltzman. La semaine vétérinaire N°1006 of february 24th of 2001".

In Switzerland, in Lausanne, the masters of dogs have to pay a tax of 600 french Francs by year and per animal. 300 dispensers of ecological pockets are installed in the town with dustbins near and there are 90 places for dogs cleaned twice a week. The green spaces are not enclosed, so signposts indicate places for dogs. A repeat offence will lead to 4000 french Francs of tax.

In Paris the prefecture attend to repressive measures, tax can reach 3000 french Francs. An information campaign incites masters to sweep their dog dirt up even in the gutter. Every saturday free lessons of dog education are proposed in eight parks in the city, and seminars about pets are organized in the universities for golden agers, as well as days training to the animal presence in town for municipal employees. "Bertrand et Marine Neveux. La semaine vétérinaire n°1004 february 10th of 2001.

The breeds of 1rst and 2nd categories   are less than 10% of the dangerous dogs. To take good habits now will allow you to prevent bad surprises. For example:

that he doesn't put his paws on the clothes of people (with pollution the stains often won't come off) or sniff then if they don't ask him to do it.

People doesn't know your dog and if he may be dangerous, so they are afraid. . You can, by examole, to stay between your interlocutor and your dog.

Don't allow him to stay during your meals to avoid he takes the habit to slobber and/or to ask food. Then it would be difficult to keep him to the restaurant...

Put him on a muzzle (even he is not dangerous) when you go to the veterinary.

Sweep up its business during his walk and avoid places where children playes in sandpits, to avoid people a fall that maybe serious (especially for elderly people) and an unpleasant smell, but also because in dogs faeces are worms called ascaries that are transmissibles to human being. You can find in petshops ecological pockets. You can also learn him when he is vaccinated arround 4 months, to do its business in the gutter.

It is difficult to found a solution when your dog barks during your absence ; but it is a real pollution especially for people working during the night. Anyway it is necessary to give a walk of at least one hour to your pet (outside of the walks for he does its business) to allow him to run and find its equilibrium (An adult dog can run around 30km in a day, without any problem). It often help to resolve the problem. To offert him that walk he must know to come back when you call him. So you must educate him with a professional trainer that learn you method based on its psychology, you can do it when he is 4 months old.

When you leave him alone you can switch on the T.V., he will feel not so lonely. If he stays a long time alone (around 6 hours), consider to leave him a place to make its business and to compensate the hours during which he bores, play with him when you come back home. The dog is an animal of pack and if and if he is alone, not accepted or rejected that increases its distress and the "stupid things" he may do.

In the french revue 30 MILLIONS D'AMIS of february 2001, you can found an article about 93 towns where all is done to make easier the life of masters and their dogs. Notably : Angers, Arras, grenoble, Marsannay-la-Côte, Mulhouse, Paris et Saint-Ouen, Montbékiard. "Laurent Masson, La semaine vétérinaire n°1006 of february 24th of 2001.

The main thing is not to know if people love animals or not but to understand that they don't know our dogs and are not obliged to accept them in any case.
